Video gaming and depression

Postby Lefalaja » Fri Sep 27, 2013 3:02 pm

Are you depressed coz of playing video games or are you playing video games coz you are depressed?

Well first of all i don't play so much now a days but i did play a lot when i was 10 - 20 years old :heat:

In my opinion video gaming saved my life facepalm I was a dam evil shit kid from hell :lol2:
Even when i played so much video games i still managed to do so much shit :mong:
I'm sure that if i didn't play video games at all then i would be dead long time ago :sad3:

Again if you had never played video games before is much better then had played and then stopped forever!
I think that will somehow make your life worse since you are used to play video games in your spare time
and then suddenly you have to actually find something else to do :wow:

My view is that this is a very important topic for people who still have nothing else beside the video gaming (sport/wife/girlfriend/kids/job),
just something else beside the video gaming. To keep yourself "busy" with gaming is a very dangerous act since this way you
are replacing something you need in life with video games.

If you are playing all day video games and then stop playing video games after 1 year or 40 years you will be in big trouble :sad3:
You will then realize that all that gaming was fun at the time
but it never filled your life with something much more important.... LOVE :lol2: all interaction with people will
fill you with love... our nature is to seek and fill our soul with acceptance by others, reflecting emotions
in a two way communication, responsive interaction and meaningful heeling.

As long as you have time to take care of your soul then go ahead and play the shit out of your console/PC :cuddle:

I think video gaming can help you in many ways and can even help you with your depression in some scale
but i really do not believe that video gaming alone can give you depression

I hope you all agree that we here on SVG are all about love and friendship and trying to make
our life just a bit more fun

:cuddle: :friends: :arosed: :howdy: :claps: :gaydance:

Sweet words for an ASSMAN :lol2: :friends:

There's no way gaming causes depression per se. People who experience problems (mental health, social) tend to retreat to mediums which allow isolation and escape. Thus this include internet, novels and movies, not only videogames. I have to say though that excessive gaming, or any hobby as a fact, may aggravate depression, as it increases isolation and social phobia.

I remember bullying being one of the reasons I turned to videogames when I was young. I would probably would have remained the same weak kid if money was not an issue. So basic human survival instincts kicked in and I was forced to go find work... then voila, the world opened up to me and I never looked back at my depression since. I do still look at videogames as that same small source of happiness when I was a kid from time to time.. not gonna change that, but really nothing beats real social connection... Btw I intend to propose to my gf in a couple of years..we'v been together for like forever :claps: Said here first so I don't get cold feet :lol2:

Lef as an evil kid......never!
not from the stories i have heard so far haha

all things in moderation are good for you :arosed:

However the more i get to know people the more i hate them......especially geo :che: facepalm haha only joking about geo :cuddle:
but i seriously do hate people :veryangry: , half an hour with you guys is more than enough for my daily social needs :wall: :lol2:

Some of my best childhood memories were growing up playing snes with my brother and also my best friend (still to this day).
I guess that is why we pay so much for these games today facepalm

@Sand4fish

At least you made it public to propose to your gf and not just told lef in private and hoped he wouldnt tell anyone.
Apparently hair colouring models cant keep secrets facepalm :lol2:

I stumbled over lot's of those articles during my daily read on twitter:

http://binarybiker.com/2011/08/06/how-w ... th-cancer/

Was my first thought when I read the topic... there are plenty more of those stories, happy nintendo games helping out of depression or something like that.

Day-units I know use Wii for acitivities and social together... great stuff. :)

(But well, you hear a lots of stories of people who get isolated by mmorpgs as well, falling into depression about this..)
